BYZANTINE Enter experimental phase with new release strategy
April 20th, 2026
Metal Blade recording artists BYZANTINE are making a decisive shift in how they create and release music, signaling a new experimental phase in their career.
Since their debut with Prosthetic Records in 2004, the progressive groove metal outfit has released seven full-length albums and one EP. Now, the band is stepping away from the traditional album cycle to adopt a more agile, modern approach.
Frontman and primary songwriter Chris Ojeda explains:
“We approached Metal Blade about moving away from full-length albums for now and focusing on singles and EPs. This allows us to release music more consistently. Our fans deserve a steady stream of new material, and this format also aligns better with how younger audiences consume music today.”
Ojeda points to the long gaps between album releases as a key challenge:
“Those gaps have hurt our momentum. It often feels like we’re starting over each time we release something new. This change gives us the freedom to stay active, experiment more, and push our boundaries creatively. Each track will have its own spotlight as a single, and once we build a collection, we’ll compile them into physical EP releases.”
With this new strategy in place, BYZANTINE is heading back into the studio to begin writing and recording immediately.
Their latest full-length album, Harbingers, was released via Metal Blade Records in June 2025.
